Founded through the Lord’s leading in 1982, Lee’s Summit Bible Church has been ministering to the people of Lee’s Summit and the surrounding areas for more than 20 years. The church began as a "home church", literally meeting each week in the homes of those who God had led to begin this work. Over a period of a few months, a Bible church in Shawnee Mission Kansas partnered with us to help us find our feet and draw up a constitution. During those months, the members of our yet unnamed church drove to Shawnee Mission on Sunday mornings and met in homes, then a small club house on Sunday and Wednesday evenings.
By Summer, Lee’s Summit Bible Church was named and had found a "temporary" home in the form of an empty machine shop on East 16th Street in South Lee’s Summit. The ceiling leaked, the bathrooms and kitchen were inadequate, the walls were ugly, as was the floor. However, we banded together to make good use of what God had given us and our "temporary" home became our seven year residence! We put paneling on the walls, covered the floors, cleaned the kitchen, and praised the Lord for His goodness.
In the late 80’s, God provided the opportunity for us to purchase 20 acres of land in northeast Lee’s Summit. After the purchase of the land, we drew up plans for a simple church building. Working nights and weekends, the members of Lee’s Summit Bible Church did nearly all of the construction work and celebrated the first service in the new building in June of 1989. In 2000, the addition to the east was begun and the old building remodeled in the same fashion, by the members of Lee’s Summit Bible Church dedicating their time, talents, and resources to the task.
A church, however, is about much more than buildings. It’s about people and vision. The pastors, board members, and congregation of Lee’s Summit Bible Church have, for more than twenty years, dedicated themselves to a simple vision. That vision is embodied in the words of Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19 & 20: "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I command you; and lo I am with you always, even to the end of the age." God has called us to the task of bringing the Gospel Message to those who need to receive it and to train believers in service and Christ-likeness. It’s the work that God calls us all to as believers and we trust that the work will continue until our Lord returns. Won’t you join us?
